Special Lecture on “Overview of Satellite Technology & Operation for Earth Observation Missions”

Department of Geography and Environment, University of Dhaka takes the pleasure to organize a special lecture on “Overview of Satellite Technology & Operation for Earth Observation Missions” on 22 March 2018 (Thursday) at 12:00 pm at Prof. Dr. M. Aminul Islam Resource Room (Room No. 223).

The lecture will be delivered by Mr. Shabbir Parvez, CEO & Founding Partner of AstroComm Technologies, LLC, Oak Hill, Virginia, USA.

Satellites are used extensively for Earth Imaging and GIS missions.  The presentation/discussion will provide an overview of Spacecraft design and operations that are targeted for the purpose. The discussion will address the following aspects:

  1. Satellite Navigation and Control to meet the mission requirements
  2. Observatory typically used for imaging
  3. Orbits to perform the imaging missions
  4. Developments in technology that enables the precision mapping

Mr. Shabbir Parvez has spent over 35 years in design and operation of satellites. He has worked for Spacecraft Manufacturers such as RCA Astro, Lockheed Martin & Orbital Science Corporation. He has also worked with Satellite operators such as GTE Spacenet and Intelsat. Through his own companies, SPA and AstroComm Technologies, he has been involved in R&D in diverse areas such as autonomous orbit control systems and enhanced RF communication systems. He has BS in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Tech, and MS in Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University.
