National Environment Olympiad 2017 Successfully Completed

World Environment Day is an annual event that aims at being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action. World Environment Day activities take
place all the year round and climax on 5 June every year, involving everyone from every part of this globe. June 5 was the day that United Nations Conference on the Human Environment began
in 1972. The United Nations Conference on the Human Environment was from 5 until 16 June 1972. It was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. United Nation’s this year’s theme for World Environment Day “Connecting People To Nature” – encourages to reduce the gap between people and nature . The major objective of the theme is to create a bondage between mankind and mother nature .

Each year, The Department of Geography and Environment, University of Dhaka, celebrates this day with grand exposure aiming at enriching the knowledge and understanding of young people
about the Environment and its contemporary issues over the globe. This year, the Environment club of the department has organized 6 th National Environment Olympiad to celebrate the world
environment day .

In Closing Ceremony Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman , Honorable Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka was the chief Guest along with  Professor Dr. Nasreen Ahmad, Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) as Spacial Guest. Other Guest of Honor Mr. Khurshid Alam (Assistant Country Director, UNDP Bangladesh),  Professor Dr. A. S. M. Maksud Kamal (Dean, Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences), Professor Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam (Dean, Faculty of Business Studies), Mr. Quazi Sarwar Imtiaz Hashmi (Additional Director General, Department of Environment, GoB). Art Competition

Children always have unique thinking on various issues. Though they do not have proper words to explain their thoughts but have special qualities to present their untold stories through pictures. That is why; this year to involve the students of primary education level drawing competition has been arranged.
Event Theme: Connecting People To Nature .
Venue : Kazi Motahar Hossain Bhaban , University Of Dhaka

This competition has two phases .At first , Participants presented their posters at Department Of
Geography and Environment , University Of Dhaka. Top 5 posters were selected . They had to present
their idea on selected themes at the National Environment Olympiad closing ceremony at Nabab Nawab
Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban , University Of Dhaka .

Environment Olympiad

Environment Olympiad is one of the main attraction of this mega event . Participants from different
schools across Dhaka registered for the Olympiad . But , we could accommodate only 400 students in
the exam venue .
Exam Venue : Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban ,University Of Dhaka .
Exam Date : 13 October , 2017 .

 World Environment Day (1972-2015), History of World Environment Movement, Rio Earth Summit
 National and International Environmental Organizations
 Common Environmental laws, acts and practices in Bangladesh
 Wildlife conservation
 Illegal trade of wildlife
 Wildlife in Bangladesh
 Forests in Bangladesh
 Recent Environmental Threats and practices in Bangladesh
 Green House gases, Global warming and Green House effects
